Zoomorphic Ornaments

Zoomorphic ornaments represent the shape-shifting attribute common among the ancient ones. They show us that nothing is as it first appears.

Zoomorphic animals are sacred to the Celts. In zoomorphic ornaments, plants turn into Knotwork, and while interweaving, might develop a head, legs or feet. In the famous illuminated Gospel, the Book of Kells, the four evangelists were depicted through their zoomorphic ornaments: the man for Matthew, the lion for Mark, the calf for Luke and the eagle for John.
